‘Short’ Poems

These poems are short. They are not very long.
They stop very quickly. They do not go on.
(Just like that one)

Yawn

When a yawn is newly born
It’s here and then it’s gone.
But as it dies one more will rise,
And so it will go on.

Clever Stairs

Stairs go up
And stairs go down.
They’re useful
For both ways, I’ve found.

Water

True and Not True

Cow

The Trifle Tower

I tried to climb the Trifle Tower
To the very top.
But half way there,
I do declare,
The Tower just went flop.

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!

“Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!” said the bee to the fly.
“That’s all I can say but please don’t ask me why.”
“Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!” said the fly to the bee.
“It’s exactly the same for me.”

Trees

At a quarter to five all the trees come alive
In the forest outside my front door.
Needless to say, when I go out to play,
I am back home by four forty-four.

A horse in a car

A horse in a car
Won’t get very far,
But quite a lot further
Than a slug in a jar.
